2022.01.18 01:30 Taffikat Am I aro-spec?
Hi all, I have a question! I currently identify as asexual, but I’m wondering if I’m on the aro spectrum too. I like the idea of romance. I would love to cuddle with someone and watch movies together, talk about our darkest secrets, and give each other little kisses. However, I almost never get “crushes”, and when I do it’s to someone I’ve been friends with first. I can count on 1 hand the genuine crushes I’ve had. People are confused when I tell them I don’t have a crush, like it’s a human expectation to always have one. I cringe when I see couples being affectionate in public, even though they aren’t doing anything wrong. I also don’t like romance movies, they’re boring to me if that’s all they’re about. I also think living in a house with a few close friends would be just as rewarding as a romantic relationship, but at the same time I do have a desire for romance and I could see myself happy if I found the right person. For that I don’t think I’m completely aro, but what about aro-spec?

2022.01.18 01:30 Greenzubat23 Podcast Discussion: Billionaires, Basketball, and Bitcoin
On this week's episode, Jon talks with Mark Cuban about, you guessed it, billionaires, basketball, and Bitcoin.
Mr. Cuban makes a pragmatic argument that it's simply good business practice to hire people from different communities. A diverse body of people working for you means your product will reach a diverse audience of supporters/customers/buyers. This is because the individuals that work for you will, if you treat your workers like actual people and take care of them, say positive things about their work and your company/product to their friends and family. In turn, this generates more business and greater profits.
I also like the point Jon made about labor in the gig economy. Simply put, people want to feel relevant and have agency in life. More and more jobs where it is one's duty to just take care of mundane tasks for people with more money than them is a recipe for revolution.
What did you think of this week's episode? What do you think was served at that White House dinner?

2022.01.18 01:30 CluelessWall0b Doxxing & Identity Theft Issue Xbox Live
So, very strange post, but I just received a voicemail to my cellphone from a restricted number, claiming that my "son" had been using racist, derogatory comments on Xbox Live, and it sounded like a father, wanting to let me know.
They stated my name, and address, that were provided by my "son", who apparently also kindly provided my phone number. Only issue is, I don't have a son, and I haven't logged into Xbox Live in like 5 years.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I can't for the life of me figure out how or why my info was used, unless it was completely random off the internet. If so, lucky me. I also don't know who would actually believe that an obvious instigator would willingly give out their own name, phone number, and address.
Heading to bed shortly in case I'm slow to respond, but any help would be appreciated.

2022.01.18 01:30 sureofitmaybe Kat’s Scene with Ethan in Ep2
When Kat is making out with Ethan in her bedroom and then she has that fantasy. She had a semi-rape? Rape?? Fantasy (I’m not sure what to classify it as) and I am so surprised no one is talking about it or arguing about it. People have said Euphoria has glorified drug use and have said a few other things criticizing the show about their approach to sensitive topics. [Sidebar: I definitely don’t want to start arguments, but I feel like people have almost been tuning out Kat’s storyline. I think she’s a great character and kind of shows the effect that social media had on some people, which I would think would be really interesting to other teens/young adults. I’m really interested to see how they’re going to handle that as the show continues.] But anyways, that scene I think shows how Kat’s standards are warped and how she approaches sex and I was just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on it? Or Kat’s character in general?

2022.01.18 01:30 mnemonic_scale Using an old throwaway - does anyone know anything about a possible cult operating in Beaufort County, SC?
Last year my sister and I spent some time in Charleston, SC. We found an interesting place a little over an hour away called the Old Sheldon Church Ruins.
Link is of a local telling the story of the church while taking video with fake gunshots competing with Amazing Grace in the background.
But that place was not normal. For a church or for a tourist site. When we got there, we were alone. You have to park in a lot across the two lane street and walk across to it. It's beautiful. But out of the way and massive.
It was open by 1753. Despite being a temple literally in the middle of nowhere, people noted historically there were less than 60-70 carriages or front on Sundays. It burned down, was re-built 40 years later, and burned again. But there's some interesting discrepancies about whether it actually burned down the second time or not.
The end of the video I linked above said it's one of the first churches in the US to be built "temple style." But here's some things I noticed before I noticed we were being watched...
There's graves everywhere. Some of them have some cryptic epitaphs on them. But what I noticed was the lack of symmetry. I've never seen a church cemetery arranged so haphazardly. Some graves go right up to the front door.
The strangest grave to me was supposefly the founder of the church. He's buried inside, at the head of the pulpit, so they would have had to hold services over his grave for decades.
Then I noticed a car pull into the lot across the street. No big deal. But they went to the edge of the woods, did something over there and left.
10 minutes later, two guys enter the grounds from across the street. They were young, maybe late teens, early 20s, both wearing hoodies. My sister was taking pictures and I was helping with equipment. They weren't looking at any of the graves, they didn't have a dog, they were just walking around kind of briskly talking to each other. This is not a place that you would go to casually stroll around on your lunch break.
Then, this dude pulls up in a contractor vehicle. Mid-twenties, work clothes. He parks on the side of the road, not in the lot, and gets out with his cell phone and is taking pictures of the graves, I guess, but he's rushing around and didn't look to be focusing on anything or sight-seeing. I took pictures of the van and plate, and he left.
The two dudes are still there, but walking kind of far away on the perimeter. A woman pulls up, dressed for work, early 30s, and is on her cell phone. She parked on the side of the road, and was talking about selling stocks and signing papers. She pretends to look at a few graves while talking loudly then leaves. She was there maybe 10 minutes.
Then I saw a cop car pull into the gravel lot across the street. He circled around, then left. I asked my sister at this point if all this seems like very strange activity for church ruins on a Tuesday afternoon? She had noticed it too.
A couple of minutes later, a car pulls into the gravel lot and a pair of older people, maybe in their 60s, walk over. They looked sort of like tourists. They were dressed very nicely. Lots of jewelry and leather. But no phones or cameras.
My sister is at the front of the church taking pictures, and I'm at the back holding her bag, and they start talking to her. I move around, and I catch the last part, "such a beautiful place, not the kind of place you want to disrespect." She agreed, of course, and they just left. They were definitely not sight-seers.
The two dudes were still skulking around and I told her I'm not a quitter, but I've seen how this movie ends and I'm not interested in disappearing today.
We left, and out of curiosity, I pulled off the road, waited about five minutes, then turned around to go back. The two dudes had already left.
I feel like all those people were there for us, to watch us or warn us away, but fucking why? It's open to the public and there's gazillions of pictures of it online.
I still get scared thinking about it. And if I'm right and these weren't tourists, none of these people had places to be in the middle of a workday? And they all worked so closely nearby, in the middle of nowhere, that they could all show up within 10 mins of each other?
Oh, and I did look up the contractor company from the van. It was located three and a half hours north of where we were.
